Responsible Travel

Being a tourist in today's world comes with its own set of responsibilities and obligations. The change climate of the planet urges us to be more responsible and take accountability for our actions and also study the impact we have on the environment. One must travel in an eco friendly way and ensure that the local citizens or the natural surroundings are not affected. These are some of the most crucial tips that vacationers must follow to travel responsibly.

  • Choosing the right transport method: A major part of your travel experience includes discovering every nook and cranny of the country. While you will have transport options like private cars and taxis at your disposal you need to know that not only do they contribute to more congestion and traffic pollution but also emit harmful gases into the environment. So, choose options like walking, cycling, electronic and public transportation in general.
  • Trying local food: A huge part of the local culture is the traditional food that is offered at the local traditional restaurants and by street food vendors. Instead of just sticking to international fast food franchises that contribute to so much waste being produced in the world, you should try the local options. Not only will it help the local economy but also will directly help the families whose sole source of earning are these small food businesses.
  • Do not throw waste: As an eco-friendly traveler, you need to promote sustainable living as much as possible in the country to motivate not only fellow tourists but local people. When you visit any tourists attractions especially country parks, make sure you do not throw any food wrapper and do not just stop at that but if you see any trash, pick it up and throw it in the dustbin. It might look like a very small thing to do but has a huge impact on people watching especially the children present in the park since they learn and mimic the behaviour of other people around them.
  • Choose a green hotel: Plenty of accommodations are available in the country that provide you with a top-notch experience but instead of choosing them, you can pick green hotels for your stay. They use eco-friendly measures to reduce the pollution and waste of the country. This is one of the great ways to contribute towards the country to keep it safe and clean.
  • Shop local: In order to support local craftsmen and artisans always shop local. During your trip to the country, you will come across small shops and food stalls in almost every lane of the country. If you want to have an unforgettable experience in the country, then buy goods and handicrafts from these shops. This will not only help you to save a lot of money but you will be supporting a lot of local people who are dependent on their small businesses to earn a livelihood.

Air Quality and Pollution

The World Health Organization (WHO) prepares that the annual air quality characteristic should be PM 2.5 and should not exceed 10 µg / m3 and 20 µg / m3 for PM 10. The most recent data show that air quality in Mauritania is excellent and could probably be called moderate, as it is ideal for a huge coordinated meeting; however, it is more modest and some fragile encounters may have some problems with air quality. The opportunity to visit Mauritania should have a huge period from November to March. You can also get reasonable expenses for aid costs.

Respect the Culture

Mauritania's way of life is a combination of numerous impacts, both native and external, of old-fashioned Berber, Moorish and French individuals, particularly noticeable in both music and cuisine. Mauritanian music is a practice transmitted somewhere near the Moors when artists molded the smallest cross piece of society and performed for anyone who paid for it. Today, the business is more refined, but the use of Moorish instruments, for example, the four-string lute and the eardrums, remains solidly impeccable. Likewise, Mauritanian cuisine can be seen as a mixture of some impacts. Although innumerable dishes and side dishes such as dried meats, roasted goats, sheep and couscous unmistakably characterize Berber and Moorish commitments, there are also more current understandings, such as prepared products and French roasts.

Top 10 Places to Visit

  • Chinguetti -Chinguetti in a real sense arises from the mobile dunes of the Sahara fort (the slopes of waste that surround it have been infringing and infringing for a long time, and have even secured part of the local locations at the edge of the settlement). A position of terribly empty roads that were marked and chipped by the breezes, it was at the same time a significant exchange visit between the Mediterranean in the north and the sub-Sahara in the south. Today, it attracts a part of the largest groups in the country, who rush to be amazed by the towers built in blocks and the old strongholds of the Berber and Almoravid clans that date from the Middle Ages.
  • Nouakchott' - The dusty, wandering darkness of a capital that is laden with noisy traffic and disintegrating low-rise houses, Nouakchott is a curiously charming place. This may be because it is radiant and pleasant in contrast to the incomparable Berber railway settlements prepared by the unparalleled Sahara sun (where most travelers are going or have been), but it may also have something to do with the bold and simple vibrations city character too. It worked for just 15,000 people, the most prominent metropolitan region here is valued at over 2,000,000 right now! This carries a lively life into the slums and migrant neighborhoods, while the Nouakchott Fish Market is certainly the place to be.
  • Atar' -Atar is the gateway to the Adrar Plateau, and where guests come to design madmen to abandon cities covered in archaic bands as Chinguetti mentioned earlier. Situated close to the heart of the country, but also close to the Western Sahara line, the city has a natural market and walking art markets - great for the chance to look for the usual Mauritanian knickknacks. There is also a variety of inviting guesthouses and restaurants that promote admission to the desert, which makes Atar an incredible starting point for additional movements for ponders like the Richat Structure or the nearby Sahara desert springs.
  • Terje - Simply taking us a short trip south on the main street of Atar, the desert garden city of Terjit remains probably the most intriguing hinterland that attracts all of Mauritania. It leaps from the arid desert lands on the banks of the Sahara in a variety of lush palm trees and chattering streams; a patch of tropical vegetation surrounded by an ocean of sand. It is situated amidst a progression of steep sides, which rise to find the slopes of the Adrar Plateau in a sensational design. There are open-air spots nearby under the palms, a zoo with camels, and, surprisingly, a background marked by great crowning liturgies to untangle!
  • Ouadâne - At the end of a long and winding street that runs from the capital in Nouakchott to the center of Mauritanian Sahara, the built-up residue of the city of Ouadâne is an unpleasant and intriguing place that does well to discover the real brutal factors of life in this dry scene, dry to the bone. It disintegrates and breaks under the scorching desert sun, with its assortment of adobe stone barrels falling on the unpleasant ledges and at a focal point of winding paths and side streets occupied by an intermittent and desolate wandering barber and his variety of confusing specialties and products.
  • Tichit -Tichit sticks to life somewhere remote in the middle of the Sahara Desert. Another part of UNESCO Ksours in the country, the city is a genuinely impressive issue. Turn up and you will see the spire taking off from the Tichit Mosque, finished with crenulations and adorned with intriguing windows on three sides (it is perhaps the most popular mosque in the country). At that point, put aside any effort to wander around the old town and see the curious use of shaded quarry stones - it is interesting only for Tichit!
  • Oualâta - A piece of Mauritania's acclaimed UNESCO World Heritage Site in the desert (the old-fashioned Ksours of the Sahara), Oualâta is irrefutably, possibly, the most charming and remarkable wonders in the country. Stroll among sandstone frontispieces with deep roots, where exquisite Berber and Moorish specimens are scrawled on the fireplace lintels and consoles, and bold arabesque designs mimic the style of Morocco's incredible kasbahs in urban areas like Fez and Marrakech.
  • Nouadhibou - Leaving his home in the Atlantic Ocean, on the strip of desert land known as Cabo Blanca, the city of Nouadhibou is the home of Mauritania's fishing industry. Its seemingly limitless ports, which permeate the cool city along its southern tip, are home to a forest of sails and boats swaying in great numbers. They go out day after day to find their quarry in the Atlantic, while different businesses in the city incorporate the handling of iron metal that comes from the processions of the desert mining outbreaks.
  • Kiffa - Kiffa is a fascinating junction city under the shadow of the exciting Affolle Mountains, which rise in rock divisions and ramps where the southern Sahara mountain ranges collide with the lands of the African Sahel. Some use this approach to take off and investigate mountain towns in the mountains, while most come in search of the mythical Kiffa blood cells that have been put on the map by artisans nearby. Created with a super mysterious combination of powdered glass, they are perhaps the most famous and conspicuous adornments to emerge in the district.
  • Néma - If you are looking for a brief look at the ancient itinerant lifestyle that once dominated the lands of Mauritania, perhaps at that point the village of Néma, blown by the wind, just towards the end of the supposed Road of Hope of the capital, it is the place to go. Found only a brief separation from the line with Mali, the place has consistently been a famous visit for brokers arriving and departing between the Atlantic coast and central West Africa. Today, it is also called the place that supports the old brousse: the traditional country life of Mauritania's unique individuals.

Kidnappings and territorial factionalism, overthrow and military joints: life has hardly been simple for the extraordinary piece of African Maghreb that is Mauritania. It is like this and others that most of the unknown legislative workplaces today warn against everything except fundamental trips to incredible wraps of this land. Ideally, one day the alerts will disappear, and General Saharan will rise and the banks of the Sahel will again be under the command of the explorer. Why? Well, since they carry with them the old Berber desert settlements, finished with old-fashioned sandstone mosques and adobe cities now turned into apparition cities. Since there are urban areas like Nouakchott and the showcases of pulsating fish inside to investigate. Since there is a portion of Africa's most notable bird varieties simply waiting to be seen along the poignant edges of the Banco d'Arguin.

City Parks

No city parks are available here.

National Parks

  • Diawling National Park - The lower delta was particularly known for its rich birdlife. Provinces of significant breeding of herons, herons, and cormorants (more than 10,000 houses in the mid-1960s) used to exist in the mangrove and Acacia nilotica backlands (Naurois 1969). The nearby population used to collect large quantities of eggs and young people from the provinces. Only a little of the previous extravagance is on the huge Rhizophora tree at the mouth of Ntiallakh. Other prominent species were pink and lesser flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber and P. minor), white pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus), and delegate crane (Balearica pavonina), the three initial species that grow fundamentally in the south of the stern during long periods of significant flooding. The deficit of floods encouraged admission to the delta and poaching by the city's occupants, working in vehicles with four-wheel drive, for all intents and purposes killed the Arab bustard (Ardeotis do the Middle East), a category of animals still basic in the latter part of the eighties.
  • Banc d'Arguin-Banc d'Arguin National Park: It is the largest public park in Mauritania. Besides, the boy deserves the title! A huge intertwine of low shoals and dotted rocky coastline that descends into the waters of Arguin Bay, on the northern edge of Mauritania, is popular for its flourishing biodiversity, characterized by the sheer measure of transient birds that pass this way every year. Observers can see any resemblance to sandpipers and flamingos, pelicans and terns in shallow waters, while the idea that the number of inhabitants in the birds that settle here is the highest in West Africa! Besides, it is home to the conventional Imraguen society, which can be seen regularly weaving in pirogues between the sand islets and the crashing waves.

Beaches

  • Nouakchott Plage - Nicola's seafront near the air terminal is a lovely place to have fun and spend the weekend. Many people, mainly foreigners, visit here. It is a cleaner, quieter and quieter area. Even though it is a long way from the city, still spend a night to see the twilight sky at some point. When in Nouakchott, a visit to the sea coast is an absolute must. The seafront is wide with white sand. It is fascinating to see fishermen drifting and returning at night in their boats and glowing pirogues. Anyway, on a hot day, the strong breeze makes the walk truly enjoyable.

Landmarks

  • Stone monument of Aicha - Adrar. A normal stone monument to Goliath - pyramidal mountain, dark and dull, rising from the desert.
  • Ben Amera (Ben Amira) - Adrar. Perhaps the largest stone monument on the planet, 400 m high, a dark pyramid rising from the desert sands. Ancient stone handicrafts are discovered nearby.
  • Kediet ej Jill - Tiris Zemmour. Huge mountain, highest peak in Mauritania. The entire mountain is composed of magnetite and has a somewhat bluish hue. The territory has a solid attractive field.
  • Bluff arrangements by Maghrouga - Hodh El Gharbi. An impressive stone monument with some incredible common curves.
  • Richat structure - Adrar. Amazing geographical development - intensely disintegrated, dome about 40 km wide, which resembles an eye of Goliath seen from space. Although generally accepted as an effect hole, this is a huge, roundabout disturbing dome.
  • Aouelloul Well - Adrar. Very protected oscillation hole. Molded about 3.1 million years before (Pliocene). Width 390 m.
  • Fer de Dieu (shooting star of Chinguetti) - Adrar. An incredible shooting star oscillating well. Although some Europeans claim that the local population has directed them towards a huge iron mountain (40 m high and 100 m long) or seen a semi-round grave, this shooting star has not been located by researchers until now. Here fascinating tektites are discovered, including huge glass balls.
  • Hole Temimichât-Ghallaman - F'dérik. Conceivable effect well with visible roundabout hole edges. The cause of the land is not clear.
  • Hole Tenoumer - Tiris Zemmour. Very obvious, well of intriguing effect. Width - 1.9 km, depth 110 m, age - approximately 21,400 years.

Museums

  • Galerie Zeinart - Contemporary and flat craftsmanship, jewelry, fine handwork. Work directly with neighborhood experts, artisans and manufacturers. Month by month displays. A neighborhood food fair in the nursery twice a month. Reasonable exchange. Isabel, the owner/artisan who runs the Galerie, is doing a gigantic job to help neighborhood experts and shows her work available to be purchased in the small local ex-pat area in Nouakchott. I was lucky to have acquired a wonderful craft that discovered a place in my home. I lived and worked for a long time in Nouakchott from 2014 to 2018 and met Isabel and her group individually. Supporting Galerie Zeinart ... support the artisans of Mauritania and West Africa.

Eat

Food occupies a significant place in Mauritanian culture. Food is typically done in public, eating from a typical dish with the right hand (never the left!). Interestingly, the lifestyle thinks it is wrong to eat in the eyes of in-laws. Regular dishes are produced with meat, corn, rice, fish, yams, and potatoes. Eating is followed by drinking cold water, sour milk, hibiscus flower juice, or green tea with sugar and mint. French bread is still used in the morning meal, and oil and sugar are normal ingredients in cooking. Since everyone eats on a collective plate (with their hands), washing their hands is a significant initial phase in preparing for dinner. Water and cleansers are passed to each person at the banquet to wash their hands. The party at that point begins with an inviting wish for "Bismillah!" (in addition to the initial expression of the Qur'an). As the host makes his way through the plate, they are almost certain to throw the best pieces of the banquet (or a choice known to a specific individual) to the available plate serving area of the visitors.

Drink

Mauritania is proven not to be a country well known for drinking, as it is a Muslim country. Liquor is banned and carefully banned in the country because of Islamic practices, however, here are the best drinks that you can discover in Mauritania. This is a typical country drink that you will discover in almost every family. The cultivation of camel's milk is mostly drilled in Mauritania, as it is harmless to the ecosystem and fills in as an option for the cultivation of cow's milk. This milk contains contrasting nutritional qualities and cow's milk. Depending on the number of elements, including type, age, and environment, the extent of nutrition varies. Camel milk can be readily made into yogurt and enjoyed while it is cold. Different nations testing camel dairy farming include the United States and Australia.

The first round of the Country Situation Overview (CSO1) distributed in 2006 compared the readiness of areas in 16 African nations to meet the WSS MDGs, depending on their medium-term spending plans and a set of 'elements of achievement 'chosen based on provincial experience. Coupled with a public partner meeting interaction, this prompted nations to find out if they had these 'performance variables' set up and, if not, regardless of whether they should be set up. The second round of Country Status Overview (CSO2) was based on the strategy and interaction created in CSO1. The 'achievement components' have been enhanced with extra factors extracted from country and territory research to build the CSO2 scorecard. Together, they reflect the fundamental advances, capabilities, and results in interpreting the account in administrations through government structures - in line with the Paris Principles for aid feasibility. The information and synopsis assessments were drawn from neighborhood information sources and information that was contrasted and universally revealed and, at every possible opportunity, the assessments have been dependent on extensive interviews with key government offices and partners in the country, including donor establishments. This second arrangement of 32 Country Situation Overview (CSO2) on water supply and disinfection was sent by the African Council of Ministers on Water (AMCOW). The advancement of CSO2 was driven by the Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) led by the World Bank in a team with the African Development Bank (AfDB), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the World Bank, and the World Organization (WHO).

Activities

See fishermen buying their daily lives on the spot in Port de Peche, a waterfront and a noisy fishing pier in the capital. The pier and the long sandy coast overflow with human action, while fishermen pull their heavy nets or fish in splendidly painted kayaks. Watchmen remove the pile from the boats, dumping boxes of fish into stupid trucks or lifting them upside down, and steal them into tents to be organized, gutted, filleted, and displayed for further negotiation or to dry. If you need to do the work yourself, bring your fishing equipment or purchase it from the nearest stores. Weekend nights welcome many groups here, especially in the hot season. Swimming is not prescribed because of solid flows. Remove the mystery of organizing an excursion in Nouakchott, using our tour schedule producer. Mauritania is a desert country, with immense regions of peaceful land and only 0.5% of arable land. Twice per email found on your website. dismissed several times twice through his contact structure on his website. I never heard back, at that moment, I called to plan the gain that was confirmed by 500 Ougayas (about $ 12). I showed up at the air terminal, except that my ride wasn't there. I called the accommodation, they advised me to take a taxi. the taxi charged me $ 35. I showed up at the inn exhausted and disappointed. I was anticipating that the hotel should pay and apologize. did not occur. at that point, everything else didn't work. the key did not work towels were missing in the room the water was missing in the room plus there is a security problem, with the hostel using motion finders for the lights. there was a delay in turning on the lights, they went out quickly, and my entrance to the room was in a nook, which means that when someone knocked on the entrance, they were obscured in the anteroom, as there was no light. truly strange.

Camping

In Mauritania, is it allowed to set up a tent and rest overnight at any place you need (within sensible restrictions I don't mean on the street, for example)? Say on the country road on the outskirts of the city. Would the police bother you? Are there reasons why it is not prudent? Are there any dangers in the desert that I should know about? I'm sure there are insects, scorpions, and snakes, but they shouldn't bother you with the chance that you're in a tent. And in different regions of West Africa, such as Mali, Algeria, Morocco? For Morocco, I would accept that it would not be conceivable in metropolitan areas like Casablanca and Marrakesh, but what about less metropolitan areas? While I'm posting, does anyone think about the circumstances of the border between Morocco and Algeria? The manuals say the border is closed, but in the south, wouldn't you simply be overcoming the desert? I can't imagine the whole thing being watched. How long have you had your visas, would you say you are okay?

Cities

Getting There and Moving Around

Today, essentially all ethnicities can obtain a visa in Mauritania, substantial for several months. The visa costs 55 € or 60USD and applies to both air terminals and land borders. Recently, some explorers have detailed the migration officer requesting an additional € 20 expense, ensuring that it was an important fee to pay to get your ID back.

Air

Mauritania Airlines flies daily (except for Wednesday) between Nouakchott and Nouâdhibou (UM31,000, 45 minutes), and twice a week via Zouérat (UM39,000, three hours). Tickets can be purchased at the carrier's Nouakchott office or most travel services.

Bus

There are no conventional transport or transport stations for significant distance travel within Mauritania.

Train

The Nouâdhibou-Zouérat train is certainly an epic experience when security circumstances give way, and it is a masochistic fantasy. It is an iron metal train without travel terminals, but it has become a traveler train for lack of other better options. The tour takes 16-18 hours, but most travelers get off at Choûm (near Atâr), 12 hours from Nouâdhibou.

Hitchhiking

Mauritania is an affectionate country, with obstructions on the police roads, and you will often be approached to hand over your identity, especially when entering or leaving a city. This is typically a straightforward method and the police are generally pleasant. Your subtleties are inscribed, so to make things easier, make your structure (fiche or ordre de mission) to give up. Rundown each of the individual subtleties of your identification (counting the visa number), personal residence, occupation, and purpose. Better to incorporate a copy of your identification data page in the same way. If you are driving, incorporate the make, the shading, and the registration number of your vehicle. Make lots of copies.

Others

In addition to the sides, the streets are flat and there is little traffic. The difficulties are not to be trifled with. Large distances between some moderate settlements, absence of shade, solid breezes, and scarce administrations or foundations equipped for cyclists imply that cycling is not for cowards. You need to carry a satisfactory supply of food and water, guarantee the sun and heat, and plan well. When you're out of luck, you can usually stay outdoors near a designated place.

Sustainable Shopping

A modest group of small shops lines the road here selling wooden boxes with silver ornaments, knives, and precious stones.

Recycling

The issue of waste is a genuine problem in all urban areas of Mauritania, especially in the capital Nouakchott. The examination showed that families produce a normal value of 0.5 kg/day per capita in metropolitan areas and 0.3 kg in rustic territories. Wasting the advice in Mauritania is a duty of the city, but the networks do not have adequate money and HR to manage the matter. The city of Nouakchott offers a waste collection and collection administration through the local metropolitan area that has managed to get a French organization to squander executives in the 9 areas of the city. The age of clinical waste is estimated at 1,206 tonnes per year. Mechanical, rural, and clinical waste is not supported by the city of Nouakchott's waste management technique. Clinical waste is often burned on-site at different clinics in the city or collected by the Pizzorno organization for landfill.

Waste

The private area is associated with wasting assortment in Nouakchott through a world administrator (Pizzorno). In the nation's ancillary urban communities, squandering the council is administered by the district. The private area is significantly more present in the recovery and reuse of waste (plastic, parts ...)
