Electronic Vehicles

Electronic cars are continuously being embraced by both locals and foreigners in Cape Town and South Africa at large. This has been greatly contributed by the ever high fuel prices. The vehicle industry has also decided to go green in terms of the vehicles they deal with. The most common electric car being driven in the streets of Cape Town is the Nissan Leaf. South Africa currently only has three electric models, with Tesla touted to enter the market sometime in the future. The three different categories of hybrid cars in South Africa are full hybrids, combined hybrids, and plug-in hybrids. Full hybrids can run on both fuel and electricity, combined hybrids use both fuel and electricity simultaneously, while plug-in hybrids require an actual plug-in point. The cost of charging is usually dependent on the vehicle's efficiency. As an example, the 2016 Nissan Leaf currently boasts an official range of 190 kilometers and 21.25kWh/100 km consumption. This translates to roughly R29.75 per 100 kilometers.
