The city is also leading in terms of environmental initiatives and norms discussed in the sections given below. In the first case, if you are an eco-friendly traveler, then using public transportation is a given rule. The city is known to be home to some efficient private transportation. You can also consider electric vehicles, but it is best to opt for cycling to get around the city.

Here are things you can do to stay eco-friendly while you are traveling:

  • Try to head for the local restaurants instead of any global food chains. This way, you will be able to explore the authentic regional cuisines of Burges and perhaps taste some of the ancient recipes. This, on the whole, will be a lot cheaper and will also elevate your whole dining experience.
  • You can also search for organic cafes and indulge yourself in some vegetarian and vegan cuisines as much as possible.

It also includes minimized energy consumption, efficient appliances, maximum use of natural lighting, and eliminating single-use products. It will help you to stay relaxed without impacting the environment much.

Respect the Culture

Bruges' people respect the ethnic legacy and is known to be the 'Venice of the North.' You can travel around the city on a private boat and enjoy its views. The people of Bruges are known to be quite reserved and serious to outsiders. If you happen to have a conversation with a Belgian, it may be a good start, but you must ensure that you can hit all the right notes to avoid upsetting him/her. Try to keep in mind that you always show respect to the Belgian culture and their traditions.

You can always begin by greeting a Belgian in Bruges with a warm demeanor, friendly smile, outstanding professionalism, and right body language. Try to avoid tucking your hands in your pocket and making any rude gestures. Your body language also extends to how you present and dress, so being too laid back could also be seen as disrespectful.
